New Version of a Debt Settlement Scam

LehighValleyLive is reporting a new scam based on settling a debt.

Apparently a local resident was facing a lawsuit by one of his creditors. He received a call from “someone with the phone number 215-948-5023 and saying they were from AMG Associates called the victim on Friday, police said. The caller alleged they were attempting to settle a debt with Chase and North American national banks, police said.”

The consumer agreed to settle the $8,000 debt scheduled for a court hearing for $1,000.99. Only problem is the caller was a scammer who just appears to have scrolled through recent debt cases filed and pretended to have the authority to settle the debt.

“Through investigation it was confirmed that the entire operation was a scam which resulted in loss of money to the victim,” police said.
